<p>Pilates is a form of physical fitness that has had a resurgence over the past decade. Joseph Pilates of Germany originally developed Pilates in the early 20th century. Described as ‘contrology&#8217;, Pilates is similar to corrective exercise or medical gymnastics where the mind controls muscle movement. Pilates is a great form of exercise for a wide range of people. That is why Pilates has quickly become one of the most popular exercise programs in the country.</p>
<p>The foundation of Pilates is based on core strength. Every movement originates from the core and progresses out through the extremities. The core is made up of deep internal muscles of the abdomen and back. Due to the American diet and lifestyle, most people don&#8217;t have strong core muscles, which can be one cause of low back pain. When the core muscles are strong, they support the spine and are able to control superficial muscles to assist in movement. The objective of Pilates is to develop core strength, flexibility and awareness in order to support efficient and graceful movement in everyday life. Pilates makes people stronger, longer, leaner and increases the ability to function. Every Pilates exercise stretches, strengthens and relaxes the body to enhance natural alignment.</p>
<p>Joseph Pilates developed traditional Pilates using a wide range of apparatuses to guide and train the body. The original philosophy seeks to develop controlled movements that start from the core. This increases strength, flexibility and control of the body. By providing equipment throughout each exercise, additional resistance builds strength. Traditional apparatus includes the Reformer, Cadillac, high chair, Wunda chair, baby chair, ladder barrel, spine corrector and small barrel. Authentic Pilates encompasses six principles, which are maintained within modern day Pilates as well. These six principles describe how Pilates should be completed and why it should be done to these standards. The six principles are concentration, control, center, flow, precision and breathing.</p>
<p>Pilates demands an intense focus throughout each exercise. The way an exercise is done is more important than the exercise itself. Developing muscle control, improves strength and the minds ability to control body movement. The core is the center of the body. Every movement should originate from the core and flow outward to the limbs. As you develop body control each movement should flow with appropriate transition. Precision allows the exercises to flow into each other. It is more important in Pilates to execute one precise and perfect movement than to do 20 sloppy incorrect movements. Improper movements don&#8217;t benefit the body and lose their value. By concentrating on precision of movements, they will become second nature, which will carry over into everyday activities. Much like yoga, Pilates requires a focus on breathing. Breathing increases circulation, which expels toxins and increases the intake of oxygen. Deep breathing is cleansing and invigorating. Pilates requires a full inhalation and a complete exhalation. It is referred to as posterior lateral breathing, to expand the rib cage and engage core muscles without changing or impeding movement.</p>
<p>The Pilates principles define how Pilates exercise is more about quality rather than quantity. In contemporary Pilates all exercises have modifications to adapt for all levels of fitness to maintain safety or increase challenge. Although modern Pilates breaks from tradition; authentic Pilates does the same exercise in the same order and contemporary Pilates breaks it down into parts and exercises may vary depending upon the day, instructor or clients. Modern Pilates also has added additional equipment such as small weighted balls, foam rollers, large exercise balls, rotating disks, and resistance bands. These are more modern exercise equipment, which provide the same type of resistance training that the classic Pilates apparatus provided. With all of that, contemporary Pilates still holds the basic values and principles as classic Pilates. Whichever style you choose, you will still benefit from developing strength, flexibility, body awareness and muscle control.</p>

<p>                When most people mentioned Pilates, they usually take it that it is done on the mat. Beginners to Pilates, prefer to start with pilates mat exercises thinking it is much easier and the way to go before progressing on to the reformer, which looks rather threatening and tough.<br />
There are definite differences between using Pilates equipment, namely the reformer verses just doing Pilates on the mat. Here are some basic differences that are obvious to all.<br />
Pilates mat exercises are great if you have limited space at home and you want to train at home or anywhere. The mat is very portable, takes up much less room, and is less expensive than a machine. You can roll it up and put it away when you are done with your workout. You can take it with you on vacation, or even to work. You will get a fantastic work out in the comfort of your own home or just about anywhere you like unlike the bulky machine.<br />
However, these are other more important factors to consider when making a decision. Ask yourself the following questions:<br />
Do you have any core strength?<br />
Do you suffer from some kind of chronic pain?<br />
Are you tight and stiff and wants to improve flexibility?<br />
Joseph Pilates created the Pilates equipment pieces to assist his patients in the army camp. The purpose is to support the human body and make it safe and easy for his injured or de-conditioned patients to get stronger.<br />
All the machines like the Trapeze Table, Reformer, Stability Chair, Ladder Barrel and more are created to make some routines that seems impossible, possible. We took most daily activities for granted. For instance, people who had lower back injury, lost their strength and flexibility of the spine. It is not easy for them to get out and up from a chair.<br />
Here are more reasons why Pilates equipment is your obvious choice.<br />
&lt;b&gt;1.Support &amp; Challenge&lt;/b&gt;<br />
Most beginners new to Pilates are weak and have no core strength. It is hard to have   them try to lift their hips off the floor in mat exercises. In a standard mat repertoire of Pilates routines, there are a number of such routines. If we take the same exercise onto the reformer for instance, it will be much easier. With both feet in the foot straps, the resistance of the spring helps to support this same hip lift. There is no struggling, holding of breath or tension from shoulders in an effort to perform this routine. This is just one of the many examples of the kind of exercises that can be easily performed on the reformer.<br />
&lt;b&gt;2.Economy of Time&lt;/b&gt;<br />
When you compare the result of working 60mins on mat verses on the machine over a period of time, it has been proven people working with machines are stronger, have better overall muscular strength and endurance. In fact, they developed better stamina and core as well. Given that we are all busy individuals busy with hectic life to run, it is certainly wise to consider this as a major factor in better management of time schedule.<br />
&lt;b&gt;3.Effective Resistance&lt;/b&gt;<br />
Working with springs as a form of resistance gives you an effective edge over body resistance. Springs can be adjusted according to your fitness level and the specific routine to be performed. It can also be loaded heavy to assist in pelvic lifts and lighten up for simple arm range of motion. Body resistance usually does not change, unless one starts to put on weight from no exercise or any other reasons. Hence, there is no possibility of increase body weight to challenge you further.<br />
Resistance gives muscle its tone and definition, effectively strength. It also prevents osteoporosis, the loss of bone density. Working with resistance also improves metabolic rate which burns more calories when the body is at rest.<br />
&lt;b&gt;4.Result Orientated&lt;/b&gt;<br />
Pilates on mat achieved results over time like Pilates equipment does. But nothing beats the kind of achievement you can get from working on the machines. Each machine can target specific angle of the body, enabling it to work deeper and more effective. On mat, if a certain range of motion is not possible due to body limitations like inflexibility of a certain joint, it is wise not to force it to avoid injury.<br />

<p>Use the following tips to safely include weight training in your exercise routine while pregnant.</p>
<p>Studies have shown that mothers who exercise during pregnancy have babies with more normal birth weights. This is important to know, because childhood obesity is becoming all too common, and babies with higher birth weights are more prone to become overweight as they get older. You can include some weight training with light stretching and cardio because the best type of exercise is moderate and well rounded. Doing so can have a positive impact on your baby as well as keeping you fit and feeling good. Exercising during pregnancy is generally safe but before starting any exercise program you should still get your doctor&#8217;s recommendation. For example, if you have high blood pressure, heart irregularities or other conditions, you may have to limit the type of workouts that you can do. Keep your doctor informed about the type of exercises you&#8217;re doing when you go in for your regular prenatal checkups, to make sure they are safe. While there is usually nothing to worry about, if you have any medical problems related to your pregnancy, you may need to take special precautions.</p>
<p>One significant benefit of doing weight training, as well as cardio exercises during your pregnancy is that it can reduce the risk of gestational diabetes. Along with a healthy diet, exercise can help to control your blood sugar and prevent you from gaining excessive fat during your pregnancy. You should do everything you can to prevent the development of gestational diabetes as it increases the risk of you later falling prey to type 2 diabetes. The reduction in the risk of gestational diabetes developing is a powerful reason to exercise during pregnancy, even if there are plenty of other motives to do so. So, as long as you follow some basic precautions, you can continue to exercise while pregnant. Not only will you feel better but exercising can help with some of pregnancies difficulties such as water retention and insomnia. Work with your doctor to design an exercise routine that will help you stay as fit and healthy as possible; this will even make it easier to return to your pre-pregnancy weight.</p>
